Describe your coaching business in one sentence: I help people confidently create lives filled with more fulfilment, joy, peace and purpose.
Meet Julia
With over 20 years of coaching experience, Julia Bauer brings a strengths-based and highly pragmatic approach to helping people create what they want in their lives.
In a recent conversation with Dr Steve Jeffs and Erwin de Grave, Julia shared how her coaching has evolved over time—from following structured coaching models to developing a more natural and flexible approach grounded in trust, presence, and focusing fully on the client.
Trained in positive psychology coaching, Julia focuses on helping clients understand and leverage their strengths, gain clarity on what they want, and take action to make it happen.
From Structure to Trust: Evolving as a Coach
Early in her coaching career, Julia focused heavily on following coaching frameworks and applying what she had learned in training—often with a strong focus on doing things “right.”
Over time, that shifted.
With experience came greater trust—trust in herself, trust in the client, and trust in the coaching process. By relaxing into the coaching relationship and focusing fully on the client, her work became lighter, more natural, and more effective.
This evolution allowed her to show up more authentically as a coach and to bring what is uniquely hers to each coaching conversation.
Strengths, Clarity, and Taking Action
At the heart of Julia’s work is a belief in understanding and leveraging a person’s strengths.
Drawing on positive psychology, she supports clients in:
- Understanding where they are
- Clarifying what they want
- Exploring how they want to live
- Taking steps to make that a reality
For Julia, coaching is a partnership—helping people figure out what they want and then supporting them in actually making it happen.
Who Julia Works With
While Julia has spent recent years working extensively with executive women, she is now broadening her focus.
Rather than working with a specific group, she focuses on people who are:
- Ambitious and self-directed
- Committed to themselves and the process
- Willing to do the work
- Open to creating what they want in their lives
For Julia, the coaching process should feel engaging and even enjoyable—focused on creating something meaningful for the client.
Tools That Support the Client
Julia uses a wide range of tools, always adapting her approach based on what will be most useful for each individual.
Her toolkit includes:
- Strengths-based assessments (including VIA Character Strengths and StandOut)
- Goal-setting tools and visual goal summaries
- The Wheel of Life
- Career discovery tools from The Coaching Tools Company
- Corporate tools such as Hogan and Myers-Briggs
Rather than using the same tools every time, she selects what will best support the client in that moment.
Some clients enjoy tools, while others prefer a more conversational approach—and her coaching flexes accordingly.
A Pragmatic Approach to Coaching
Julia describes herself as a pragmatic coach.
While she values reflection and insight, her focus is on helping clients move forward in practical and useful ways.
She aims to:
- Simplify complexity
- Focus on what is most useful
- Support clients in taking action
For Julia, coaching should make things clearer and easier—not more complicated.
Learning, Growth, and Professional Development
Julia is committed to ongoing learning and holds a PCC credential with the ICF.
She values continuous development and has completed programs such as Beyond Sessions, alongside training in positive psychology and other coaching approaches.
She is particularly interested in learning that can be directly applied—both in her own life and in her work with clients.
In Conclusion: Creating What You Want
Julia Bauer’s coaching is grounded in strengths, clarity, and action.
With over two decades of experience, she supports clients in understanding themselves, defining what they want, and taking steps to make it happen—bringing a practical, flexible, and client-focused approach to every conversation.
