For many of us this season can feel like a treadmill of getting ready for the holidays, running our own businesses and getting ready for the next year! Remember to celebrate YOU this December.
Because if you’re reading this then, most likely, you run your own business. And it takes a lot of time, energy and hard work. You put your heart and soul into it—helping others have better, happier lives, careers and businesses.
And it’s so easy to focus on what you didn’t get done—and what we still need to do. Instead I want you to take a few moments (now if you like!) to reflect on your achievements.
Here are 3 quick questions to answer:
- Name the 5 things you are most proud of this year
- TIP: This isn’t about anyone else’s standards.
- However big or small, what are YOU most proud of?
- What are the 3 biggest things you accomplished?
- 12 months is a long time so think right back to January, and work your way forwards.
- What are the 3 biggest things you accomplished this year?
- List the 3 biggest successes your clients had this year
- However big or small, what changes did you help your clients with this year? How did your clients grow?
What will you do to celebrate or reward yourself for all your hard work?
As well as acknowledging your achievements, it’s important to celebrate too—and there are so many ways to celebrate!
The important thing is to choose something that’s meaningful to you. And it’s great if it’s something you wouldn’t ordinarily do—or give to—yourself.
Here are 10 ideas to celebrate you:
- Organizing a holiday party with a group of friends who have their own businesses.
- Treat yourself to something you’ve been wanting for a while.
- Some examples of mine include Dr Marten boots with wide ribbon laces, a handbag, some ear-rings and some new oracle cards. These were all things I wanted—but did not need. Every time I wear or use them I remember how hard I worked and that I deserve to be proud of myself.
- Treat yourself to a special dinner or night out.
- Buy yourself a celebratory cake!
- Book a spa treatment.
- Go on a ‘special’ hike and take a picnic somewhere beautiful.
- Take a day off and make no plans. Do whatever you feel like next!
- Go out dancing—or book some dancing lessons!
- Go to a concert—or book yourself some singing lessons!
- Get yourself a piece of art.
Wrap-up
You are amazing—remember that!
So celebrate you! What reward—thing or an experience—will you give yourself to remind you of your hard work, and all that you achieved?
Celebration is a confrontation, giving attention to the transcendent meaning of one’s actions. Abraham Joshua Heschel
