QUESTION 1. What one book should every coach read – and why?
I highly recommend the book “You’re a Badass” by Jen Sincero. This book is a game-changer for anyone looking to transform their life and step into their power. Jen’s no-nonsense approach and relatable anecdotes make this book a fun and engaging read, while her practical tips and exercises provide readers with actionable steps to create real change in their lives. Whether you’re looking to improve your relationships, career, finances, or overall sense of self, “You’re a Badass” is a must-read.
Also, as the author of “Ease & Flow: A 31-Day Journal to Clear, Connected, and Courageous About Life”. I believe that every coach can benefit from journaling and reflection.
As coaches we pour out energetically, and journaling as a mindfulness tool can support coaches with prioritizing their wellbeing. By sharing their personal experiences, insights, and reflections, coaches can get inspired to live their lives with greater purpose, clarity and authenticity. Whether they’re looking to deepen self-awareness, navigate life’s challenges, or cultivate more meaningful connections with others, the “Ease & Flow Journal” offers practical prompts and structures to support self-discovery and growth.
QUESTION 2. Which website do you visit the most?
Audible (audible.com) for audible books and podcasts.
QUESTION 3. Whom do you admire most and why?
It’s very challenging to choose only one person that I admire because I have experienced many benefits from being raised by powerful women and men who are advocates for the Black community.
One leader that stands out is philanthropist and community builder Pinky Cole, the founder of Slutty Vegan, the Atlanta-based vegan restaurant chain. She’s an inspiring entrepreneur who has demonstrated the power of hard work, creativity, and a commitment to making a positive impact on the world. Pinky’s mission is not only to promote veganism and healthy living but also to help underserved communities by providing job opportunities, supporting local initiatives, and giving back.
I am inspired by her dedication to social justice, her entrepreneurial spirit, and her unwavering passion for making a difference in the world. Pinky’s story is a reminder that we all have the power to create change and make a positive impact, no matter our background or circumstances.
QUESTION 4. What’s your vision for your life? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Continuing to experience joy in my personal and professional life. I envision a world where our son reaps the benefits of leading organizations and living in communities where coaching is not seen as a luxury and instead is the norm. I believe this will be a reality given improvements in key areas of growth and evolution including access to more coaches from Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) communities and a greater emphasis on diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility within the industry.
I see myself continuing to be a thought leader who champions kindness and compassion in business, and I believe this will only become more important in the years to come as people embrace transformation, enlightenment and a focus on community collaboration. With the challenges that the world has faced over the past few years, from the COVID-19 pandemic to social unrest, I think there will be a greater recognition of the need for empathy, understanding, and support in both personal and professional contexts.
I believe we’re witnessing a significant shift in attitudes towards work, with many people rejecting the idea of a “grind” mentality and embracing a more holistic and balanced approach to life. I believe this will continue, and that the coaching industry has an important role to play in supporting individuals and organizations as they navigate these changes and find ways to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
As for my retirement plans, I will continue to embrace my definition of retirement—releasing what no longer serves me and embracing what does. To that effect, I intend to enjoy more time with my loved ones, enjoying a nomadic lifestyle and continue my passion as an international speaker. I will always remain a lifelong learner and advocate for personal and professional growth for leaders and coaches.
QUESTION 5. What are your Top 3 Goals at the moment?
- Continuing to grow and expand my coaching and consulting business, with a particular focus on training and developing new coaches through my training school.
- Increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the coaching industry, both through my own work and by supporting and promoting the work of other coaches and organizations that share these values.
- Leveraging existing coaching tools and designing new programs that support improved self-awareness, professional growth, and leadership development.
QUESTION 6. What has been your favourite coaching moment so far?
Several of my favorite coaching moments have been leading executive leadership teams and training and mentoring coaches. It’s an incredible experience to work with such dynamic people who are passionate about their mission and dedicated to making a positive impact in the world.
Receiving feedback where I was referred to as the “G.O.A.T.” in the coaching industry and being described as an “anointed kingdom worker” was truly humbling and inspiring.
And seeing the growth and progress that teams make and witnessing the transformation coaches experience is incredibly rewarding and reminds me of why I love this work.
QUESTION 7. What are your Top 3 favourite coaching tools and/or resources?
- The Wheel of Life Assessment (by The Coaching Tools Company): Is a great tool that helps you better understand what you can do to make your life more balanced in different life dimensions.
- Sea Me Now (by ICLI): a tool to get complete when you experience gaps between commitments and results.
- Using play to build trust and safety (improvisation techniques by ICLI)
QUESTION 8. What do you love most about being a coach?
What I love most about being a coach is the magical way that my clients get supported and I experience opportunities to grow in my self-leadership.
Supporting people with unlocking their potential, achieving their goals, and living a fulfilling life that aligns with their values brings me immense joy. It’s incredibly rewarding to see my clients and coaching mentees make progress above circumstances and gain confidence and clarity in their personal and professional lives.
I also enjoy coaching C-suite executives and teams and supporting them with navigating complex situations and deepening connection in their relationship to self and others. Being a coach allows me to use my skills and experiences to make a positive impact on the lives of others, and that’s truly fulfilling.
QUESTION 9. Tell us a secret about you…
My favorite insects are butterflies, I could watch them for hours and maybe its because my tongue is in the shape of a butterfly!
QUESTION 10. If you could change one thing in our world, what would it be? And how would you go about it?
I would like everyone to have a healthy relationship to the power of love, possibility and an abundance mindset.
I believe this is possible when we understand that at the foundation of many of the world’s ills, is fear—fear of someone getting ahead of you, having more than you, and having access to more than you.
A primary example is racism. Racism has plagued our society for far too long, and its effects have been devastating for individuals, communities and entire nations. To achieve this, I would focus on education and awareness-raising efforts, particularly among young people.
It is essential to educate individuals on the damaging effects of racism and discrimination and how it undermines our society’s fabric. As a coach, I am committed to working with individuals and organizations to promote these values and create a world free of racism and discrimination.
