Meet Maria-Caterina
QUESTION 1. What one book should every coach read – and why?
One book that I think every coach should read is ‘The Coaching Bible’ by Ian McDermott and Wendy Jago. It offers practical advice and tools, and explains what works and why. Fundamental reading for coaches, clients and commissioners.
QUESTION 2. Which website do you visit the most?
As a GENOS Master Trainer in Emotional Intelligence, the website I visit the most is GENOS as I am constantly interested in learning and reading about Emotional Intelligence as well as connecting with the GENOS University for any update.
QUESTION 3. Whom do you admire most and why?
I admire all of my trainers, coaches and mentors who helped me develop my abilities and inspire me to achieve my professional goals.
I also draw inspiration from people I have not been so lucky to meet in person but that have equally strongly inspired me. Among them, Daniel Goleman as it was after reading his book ‘Emotional Intelligence’ back in 1995 that I literally became passionate about the topic. He made me realize that Emotional Intelligence is at the root of our behaviours and responses, and enables us to develop a healthy life, work and relationships.
QUESTION 4. What’s your vision for your life? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
My vision is to have Emotional Intelligence stand at the forefront in every decision and relationship so that empathy, respect and resilience may become the real essence of business and life.
QUESTION 5. What is your “big project” at the moment? OR What are your Top 3 Goals at the moment?
My plan is to develop an online series of coaching sessions on the key Emotional Intelligence competencies to face changes in life and work.
QUESTION 6. What has been your favourite coaching moment so far?
Recently, one of my favourite coaching moments has been with a woman leader who never felt at ease contributing and sharing her ideas in meetings with her peers (all men and older than she was). She finally found the energy and trust in herself to completely change attitude and behaviours. That change made her become recognized as one of the greatest innovators among her peer group.
QUESTION 7. What are your Top 3 favourite coaching tools and/or resources?
- On the top of the list there is listening, as coaching does not exist without the art of listening.
- I also think that the use of metaphors is extremely powerful.
- My third favourite tool are NLP time-lines.
QUESTION 8. What do you love most about being a coach?
That I can contribute to help people shine!
QUESTION 9. Tell us a secret about you…
I love silence, or better listening through silence. I treasure those moments of ‘mindful silence’.
QUESTION 10. If you could change one thing in our world, what would it be? And how would you go about it?
I would want to see more respect of nature and animals. I already contribute by supporting campaigns for the care of animals to avoid cages, and against intensive farming that impacts negatively on climate. I will continue to do so in the future.
