Describe your coaching business in one sentence: I promote health and well-being, quality education and cooperation. I help individuals and leaders grow to their full potential in the workplace and also develop human resource competencies and diversity at the organizational level.
Meet Laila
QUESTION 1. What one book should every coach read – and why?
The one book every coach should read would be The Speed of Trust by Stephen M. R. Covey.
This book is about building some of the most important qualities you can have as a coach: your trustworthiness, dependability and reliability.
QUESTION 2. Which website do you visit the most?
I started my consultancy firm in May 2022. So I have looked at many websites for inspiration. My company has not long ago turned “1 year old”, yay!
I think The Coaching Tools Company has many valuable tools to use in relation to thinking, ideas, networking and helpful business templates etc.
I’m also very happy to be a member of the Coaches Helping Coaches Facebook Group.
QUESTION 3. Whom do you admire most and why?
I admire my grandmother, who taught me to be creative—and to be myself. She used to tell me stories so I can imagine things in pictures. This is probably why I am so visually oriented, yet can also create helpful overviews and analyse the details too.
I also admire the amazing women who taught me my coaching skills: In particular my mentor Jytte Dalgaard from Denmark. Jytte has helped me connect with my inner resources, and achieve well-being and balance in my life. She is my gift from the universe, and I am eternally grateful to have met her along with many other talented coaches.
QUESTION 4. What’s your vision for your life? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
- I see myself developing as a woman with strength and empowerment both personally and professionally.
- I see my company growing and many companies (from small to large) using my services in Greenland.
- I also see many fun tasks where I collaborate with people who have the same mindset.
- And not but least, I see myself having a life where I create freedom for myself through my energetic and emotional state.
QUESTION 5. What are your “big projects” at the moment?
- One is the stress coaching/stress management services I offer businesses and leaders. I support them in integrating practices in psychological safety, honouring diversity and navigating through conflict when things are tough.
- A second project helps children and teenagers with their anxiety, visualizing breathing techniques and learning healthy coping skills.
- My third big project is about delivering workshops within organizations on topics like: stress management, team building, corporate culture and values.
QUESTION 6. What has been your favourite coaching moment so far?
I worked with a person who developed both personally—and strengthened her impact at work. In particular she learned to better communicate in pressured situations and achieve more resourceful states when collaborating and at work in general.
It was awesome to see a formerly stressed woman transform into someone who takes good care of herself, makes better decisions and commits to taking responsibility for her life.
QUESTION 7. What are your Top 3 favourite coaching tools and/or resources?
My favorite coaching tools are for instance:
- Picture cards. I use a dialogue with a visual approach because sometimes complexity and multiple ideas can be conveyed by a single still image. A picture can often convey meaning or the essence of a situation more effectively than verbal description.
- Evidence based methods and techniques for stress relief, prevention, and stress management.
- The “Not To Do List” and reverse brainstorming (things to avoid instead of ideas to do!) to bring creativity to life and challenge my clients to think in a different way.
QUESTION 8. What do you love most about being a coach?
What I love most about being a coach is the fact that we all have the resources needed to create the life that, deep down, we desire.
At the same time, coaching helps us gain the insight needed to make the right decisions.
My key words are: Competence Development – Personal Recognition – Development of Balance in private and working life through Motivation, Action and Results.
QUESTION 9. Tell us a secret about you…
I have a Ghanaian nickname Adzo which means a female born on Monday. I spent a whole year in Ghana in West Africa as a development student in my younger days. I lived in a village in Peki, with the most loving family—and I am eternally grateful to them for taking care of me.
I got to know many people in the village, but also in the capital city Accra and in Cape Coast. I was called “Yevu vi” (Little White), or “Obroni” as used for White people in Ghana.
And I still have some African rhythmic dance techniques in me, ha ha!!
QUESTION 10. If you could change one thing in our world, what would it be? And how would you go about it?
If I could change one thing in our world it would be to teach children, at an early age, the importance of loving and taking care of yourself—the importance of using soft values and not so square values.
We measure each other too much via our professionalism and intellect in adult life, and instruct our children in systems that are about learning to write, calculate and read.
But we should also teach our children to take care of themselves emotionally and spiritually.
