A coach’s state of mind may have an impact on the conversation between the coach and the client. Therefore, a coach needs to learn how to manage their state of mind easily.
Higher well-being levels lead to higher engagement, creativity, social support, and fulfillment. Therefore, by working on raising their well-being, a coach will be more engaged, creative, and present in the coaching sessions. That will enable the coach to help their clients in realizing their potential.
As emotions are contagious, the coach’s well-being will impact the well-being levels of their clients as well. Here are 10 hacks that a coach can use to enhance their well-being quickly and efficiently.
1. Look at photos of your previous happy moments
Seeing photos of previous trips, adventures, school or college days may instantly change the mood of a person. Seeing photos of kids can have an instant impact on the state of mind of a coach. So, having a few photographs in your room or on your computer and seeing these photographs before the coaching session can enhance the well-being levels of a coach.
2. Visualize and thank people who have helped you in your success
Thank two or three people who helped you achieve success in your life or have contributed to your accomplishments. To make it more impactful, see those memories in your mind and get in touch with the feelings you have had at the time of your success and accomplishments.
3. Write a gratitude journal for 2 minutes
Positive psychologists have emphasized the relationship between expressing gratitude and enhanced well-being. Numerous studies have found a close link between writing a gratitude journal and well-being. The gratitude journal writing for just two minutes will also have a quite positive impact on your well-being.
4. Remember the most beautiful thing that happened to you recently
Remembering the most beautiful thing that happened to you recently may enhance your positivity and happiness. This can be done easily by just closing your eyes and recalling some of the beautiful things that happened to you recently. This can immediately fill the mind with positive emotions and enhance the levels of well-being of a coach.
5. Help someone or make a plan to help someone
Positive psychology emphasizes the impact of helping behavior on the well-being level of the person providing the help. Helping someone or making a brief plan to help someone can immediately enhance the well-being levels of a coach. Even having the intention to help other people can boost positive emotions.
6. Have a short conversation with a family member or a friend
Short conversations with a family member or a friend can fill the mind with happy emotions. The conversation can be around a topic that is favorable to both you and that uplifts your mood.
7. Feel the valuable gifts you have for contributing to society
Acknowledging that you have some valuable gifts that will make the world a better place is quite a fulfilling experience. All of us have or may find the gifts for contributing to society. Coaching itself is a wonderful gift coaches use to contribute to society. Thinking and feeling those gifts can enhance social dimension of well-being.
8. Recall activities that stretched you and brought you into the flow state
According to positive psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, the best moments in our lives are not the passive, receptive, relaxing times. Rather, the best moments usually occur if a person’s body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile. Recalling those activities which stretched your limits and brought you into the flow state may generate feelings similar to what you had at the time of engagement in those activities. Thus recalling those activities may enhance well-being levels.
9. Make a list of reasons why the world is becoming a better place
According to well-being scholar Corey Keyes, social actualization is an aspect of social well-being. According to him, when people believe that society is evolving positively and has the potential to grow positively, it may raise well-being levels. Therefore, just investing two or three minutes in thinking and making a list of reasons which you believe are making the world a better place will enhance the social actualization aspect of well-being.
10. Acknowledge and accept multiple aspects of self
According to well-being scholar Carol D. Ryff, self-acceptance is an important element of psychological well-being. When an individual acknowledges and accepts multiple aspects of self, including good and bad qualities, it enhances the well-being levels of that individual. Similar views were shared by personality psychologist Carl Rogers. Therefore becoming aware and accepting the multiple aspects of one’s personality can enhance congruence levels of the coach leading to enhanced well-being.
