Meet Jennifer
QUESTION 1. What one book should every coach read – and why?
The Co-Active Coaching book because of the author’s contribution to coaching, and the robust examples and appendices including one-on-one questions and visualization.
QUESTION 2. Which website do you visit the most?
The Google search engine is my go-to for so many personal and professional topics. From checking the weather (which we love to do in Canada!) to undertaking research, I appreciate how much we can connect into, and learn, at any given time.
QUESTION 3. Whom do you admire most and why?
I have been lucky to have been mentored by many world changers over the years, and by those who have made an impact in many different ways.
During my 20s and early 30s, I was struck by the leadership and humility of several key leaders within the United Nations system. One person was an exceptional female head of agency who had found a way to balance being an amazing leader who led others globally and was also an amazing parent as well. I was lucky to be able to spend time with her during special assignments before she passed away.
During that same time, I also admired Kofi Annan who was the Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006. His leadership and humility during very challenging global moments imprinted my own leadership mindset significantly.
QUESTION 4. What’s your vision for your life? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In creating my business, Potentials Realized, I’ve been intentional in creating a business that allows me to work from anywhere, and one that grows with me.
I look forward to continuing to be a coaching practitioner, and to write, research and train coaches around topics that are on the edges of our profession.
So up to this point it’s been about being a thought leader in the areas of group and team coaching, and virtual and remote work. But let’s see what changes happen in the next five years!
QUESTION 5. What is your “big project” at the moment?
There is never just one “big project”!
At the moment I am continuing to roll out a new body of work called Reconnecting Workspaces. The book Reconnecting Workspaces: Pathways to Thrive in the Virtual, Remote, and Hybrid World was released in mid-June of 2021. It was timely, and has been well-received as it focuses on supporting those who are working in the virtual, remote and hybrid worlds.
This summer I also started training up Reconnecting Workspaces Certified Coaches who will be expanding the conversation with their clients.
On October 1st (2021) the 90 Day Guide For Success is being released, which is a 90 day guide for those in the virtual, remote and hybrid space.
Also coming this fall is the Reconnecting Workspaces dice set, for those that love kinaesthetic resources to spark conversations.
QUESTION 6. What has been your favourite coaching moment so far?
There have been many over the last 17-18 years!
I continue to enjoy seeing the flashes of insight people have when they are in dialogue with other group and team members, as well as the peer accountability that happen when people come together in a coaching conversation.
QUESTION 7. What are your Top 3 favourite coaching tools and/or resources?
- I continue to be inspired by Communities of Practice I am a member of. I love how the virtual world connects us to professionals from across the globe with the click of a button. The ability to learn, and share best practices with professionals from around the world, is an incredible benefit.
- On a practitioner level, I love incorporating strengths work with my clients as this is something that has relevance across locations and industries.
- Also on a practitioner level, I love the simplicity of the Coaching Wheel Tool (which could be Wheel of Life, Wheel of Business, Wheel of Team Performance). It is a great benchmark to revisit at multiple points throughout the coaching process.

QUESTION 8. What do you love most about being a coach?
Being a coach is a privilege on so many levels: we get to be part of our client’s world for a short time while they are on their journey to creating and achieving what is most important.
QUESTION 9. Tell us a secret about you…
I spent the first decade plus of my career, facilitating conversations at the global, national and community levels, for the United Nations and the NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) sector across Central and South America.
Since starting Potentials Realized back in 2004, I have loved not having to travel in order to connect with clients across the world, and being able to leverage the power of virtual connections and conversations.
Being virtual has also been a ‘level-setter’ for me, minimizing the impact of limited vision in one of my eyes.
QUESTION 10. If you could change one thing in our world, what would it be? And how would you go about it?
Across my entire career I have seen the range of challenges and opportunities in our world, many first hand.
From supporting communities and nations on the ground post-natural disaster to working with leaders and teams in business, I believe that change happens one conversation at a time. Change happens when we’re able to bring people together to share their experiences and perspectives.
I feel lucky to be able to continue facilitating this work as a group and team coach every day.
